Dolby Digital

Thomas Dolby last night at the Concord = magnificent. A really triumphant return to the UK after being in the US for a long time. He opened with “Airwaves”; so lovely I was welling up.
Curiously, the set featured nothing from the under-rated “Astronauts and Heretics”, but was heavy on the 80s hits. All good stuff though; Dolby was obviously loved and respected by a partisan crowd. Between songs he gave interesting short talks about his adventures in music – recycling his old unused piano part Malcolm McLaren’s “Soweto” to become the wonderful “The Flat Earth” and the perils of being sampled – without permission – by Kevin Federline.

The midi-tastic setup Dolby used was a demonstration of how such kit should be used – a genuinely live and dynamic performance with state of the art equipment.

Oh, and he had a Novation controller – just like mine!

I am a bit tired today.
